A year-old man was arrested on a host of charges Saturday after police said he led state troopers on a high-speed chase through several Georgia counties in a car full of children. The chase began on I North in Monroe County when a deputy pulled over Furquan Muhammad for not having a tag, authorities said. State troopers who were notified of the chase saw Muhammad speed past them at a high rate of speed, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Lt.

Stephanie Stallings said. The chase continued for about 28 miles as Furquan led police through four counties. That started a chain-reaction wreck that damaged four police vehicles, three that belonged to the GSP and one that belonged to a Monroe County deputy, authorities said. Two troopers were taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital with minor injuries and later released.

During his arrest, Investigators also learned that Muhammad had an active warrant for a felony probation violation in Bibb County, deputies said. He was charged with felony fleeing, four counts of reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects, possession of prescription drugs that were not in their original container and several traffic violations, authorities said.

An Alpharetta officer was injured in a crash early Saturday at the end of a high-speed chase that began on southbound Ga. The suspect was identified as year-old John Bolling, Miller said. Other agencies also were involved in the chase for Bolling, who was taken into custody and charged with DUI and other offenses. The officer was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released, according to a statement. The incident began shortly before 2 a. Many municipalities have written policies that set the parameters of what is acceptable and what will not be tolerated during pursuits. Surprisingly, a police officer who has observed a noticeably intoxicated driver has no duty to protect a member of the general public from the negligence of the intoxicated driver by arresting or otherwise restraining the intoxicated driver from continuing to drive.

Although a police officer has authority to arrest a driver without a warrant where an offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge, this authority alone does not create a duty to arrest for purposes of a tort action.
